Sony is about to launch Xperia 1 VII, enhancing camera functions
Sony plans to make a significant camera upgrade to its upcoming flagship phone Xperia 1 VII. According to Japanese media Sumahodigest, Sony will adopt the latest Exmor T sensor in all three rear cameras. This marks a significant improvement over last year’s Xperia 1 VI, which only used Exmor T sensor on the main camera.

Sony Xperia 1 Vii Features
Features of Exmor T sensor
The Exmor T sensor is Sony’s latest stacked CMOS sensor, using dual-layer transistor pixel technology. Compared with the older Exmor RS sensor, it significantly reduces noise, enhances performance in low-light environments, and improves dynamic range.

While sensor size and pixel count are expected to remain the same – 52 MP for the main camera (48 MP effective), 12 MP for the ultra-wide and telephoto cameras – the integration of Exmor T sensors in all lenses could result in smoother transitions and more consistent color performance. This development is expected to improve the overall photography experience.

Release expectations
Sony has always launched the Xperia 1 series of phones in the second quarter, and the Xperia 1 VII is expected to follow this pattern, possibly in May 2024. More information is expected to be revealed as the release date approaches.
It is worth recalling that the Xperia 1 VI is equipped with a 6.5-inch 19.5:9 display with a resolution of 1080 x 2340, runs Android 14, and supports 3 major Android updates. It is equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip inside, equipped with UFS 4.0 storage, providing faster app loading and file transfer speeds. The battery capacity is 5000mAh, supporting 30W wired and 15W wireless charging.
By equipping all rear cameras with Exmor T sensors, the Xperia 1 VII promises a significant improvement in image quality.

However, image processing also plays a key role here. So we’ll wait for the launch event to test the phone in person and see how Sony takes advantage of the new technology.
In addition, it will be interesting to see how the Xperia 1 VII competes with mainstream flagship phones that focus mainly on computational photography, such as the Galaxy S25 Ultra or the vivo X200 Pro.
